Joseph Carmel Campbell came into this world Sept. 2, 1942 to Harry Francis Campbell and Myrtle Louise Hagans Campbell in Panama City, Fla. He peacefully left this world Nov. 28, 2018.

He leaves with us his most precious gift, Kortney Campbell James, with her husband Rylee; friend and ex-wife Tami Higginbotham; sister Marcia Drew with her husband Bill; brother Fred Campbell with his wife Judy; sister-in-law Sue Campbell and stepchildren Jaymie McCourt, A.J. Lee and Ceceilia Brown.

Those who went before him are his parents, a brother, Gary Campbell, a sister, Charlotte Kent, with her husband James Kent, and his son, Jeff Ziegler.

After Joe graduated from high school, he went to Gulf Coast Community College to play baseball. He enlisted into the Army in October 1966, receiving an honorary discharge in 1972 as an armor crewman, but stayed in the Reserves with a rank of Sgt. Spec 5. He came to Hilliard and worked at the FAA Center until 1981. He was a jack of all trades and had many jobs using his trades, the last one of which was with the county until he retired.

Some would say Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman, but Joe was an extraordinary hunter and fisherman. He was a joke teller, could make anyone laugh and loved it. Spending time with his family and friends was one of his favorite things to do. Joe had many loved ones and close friends that will miss him dearly.

Family and friends are meeting Friday, Dec. 7, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Gene Higginbotham’s (Kings Ferry Boat Ramp), 4997 Bill Johnson Rd., Hilliard, for Joe’s journey through our lives. A meal will follow.
