
John Calvin “Jack” Stalnaker, 97, passed away on Dec. 2, 2017 at the Warner Center for Caring. He was born July 2, 1920 in Baldwin, Fla. and was raised in Callahan, Fla.
Jack was associated for years with First Federal Savings and Loan, and later, Fernandina Beach Housing Authority, serving as a board member and as the executive director. He was a licensed real estate agent, operating his own business, Stalnaker Realty, and was later employed by Century 21.
Mr. Stalnaker served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was the oldest member of the American Legion Post 54. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach.
Survivors include nieces Janice Tiner McClain of Valdosta, Ga. and Joyce T. Bradley (Peyton) of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; nephews Jesse Robert Tiner (Judy) of Fernandina Beach and Brian Tiner (Robin), Mason Tiner and Harrison Tiner of Hinesville, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Geraldine S. Tiner, nephew Gerald McClain and longtime companion Isabell Sturges.
Services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the Burgess Chapel. The family received friends on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home. Mr. Stalnaker was laid to rest in Bosque Bello Cemetery.
