James Jackson “Jack” Cravey

James Jackson “Jack” Cravey passed away peacefully on Dec. 1, 2017 at his home in Callahan, Fla. 

He was the last surviving child of seven children born to W.H. and Luna A. Cravey of Tifton, Ga. His family moved to Callahan when he was 2 years of age, and it is where he called home the rest of his life.

Jack served in the Air Force in World War II. He was stationed in Louisiana, where he met his wife of 71 years, Brenda Shaw. Jack enjoyed law enforcement and served as a police officer in Callahan, where he was appointed Constable of the Fifth District by Governor Claude Kirk.

Jack and Brenda had several businesses in Callahan and a ranch and dairy in Louisiana. Jack’s passion in life was being a rancher. He loved raising his cattle and border collie dogs.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Cravey; three children, Richard J. Cravey of Callahan, Thomas D. Cravey and Barbara Steeg of Neptune Beach. He also had numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the loves of his life.

Jack had a simple farm life and in lieu of this, he desired that all participants to wear western/casual attire at his proceedings. The visitation was held on Monday, Dec. 4, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Callahan Funeral Home with funeral services also held in the chapel on Dec. 5, 2017 at 11 a.m. Interment followed in Jones Cemetery.
