Joe Harlen Sikes, 75, of Hilliard, Fla. passed away Nov. 1, 2016 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Jan. 13, 1941 in Crossville, Ala. to Melrose Thompson and John R. Sikes. Joe was a graduate of Callahan High School, Class of 1959. He retired after 21 years of service with the United States Navy. Joe also retired as a painter and a member of the Brotherhood of Painters, Decorators and Paperhangers of America, Local Union No. 88, Tampa, Florida. He was a member of Milligan First Baptist Church in Baker, Fla. and also a charter member of River Road Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, John Colson Sikes (April) and Chip Jones; three daughters, Sherri Harris (Clay); Christina Ball (Jeff) and Sissy Jones-Thames; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one aunt, Clara Kilgore; several cousins and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother George and sister Rosemary.
The family received friends Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016 at River Road Baptist Church from 1-2 p.m. Funeral services began at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Benjie Loyd and the Rev. Hal McIntosh officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with military honors.
